A joke on QI reminds me of a trip taken 7 years ago and the striking image of old/new Athens that’s stayed with me since. It was announced last week that the Caryatids from this shot are being moved to a new museum in Athens. The works themselves are such a telling timepiece of technical improvement during the Archaic period as well as a far-reaching reference to (ideological and devotional) feminine representation, something that could not previously be studied first-hand for most, for obvious reasons.
